When poor quality crime scene images are used as evidence, the solution is seldom a 'One size fits all" activity. For example, computer enhancement, a popular solution on television, will alter the image evidence and can then be deemed unusable in a court of law. Although invaluable as an investigative tool, computer enhanced images seldom add any real value to legal proceedings. The first step in using a crime scene image as evidence is to compare images of the defendant to the crime scene image. Then similarities and differences in the image details can be established. Many times this will deliver an uncontested realization of the truth. The
second step is to produce a clear and simple presentation of findings in
both print and electronic mediums. |
